JET Farm Walk and Seminar at J M Stratton & Co on Tuesday 16th May

The 2018 JET Reunion farm walk and seminar will give us an insight into a large and progressive farming business located on the southern edge of Salisbury Plain near Warminster by kind permission of the Stratton family. J M Stratton & Co is a highly diversified family partnership based at East Farm, Codford operating over more than 2000 ha with arable and dairy farming enterprises, Anaerobic Digestion and Solar PV energy enterprises, property lettings and a significant shoot.

stratton cowA partnership of the four Stratton brothers, the business is managed by Josh Stratton and is based around a 400 cow dairy on an outdoor grass based system and a large scale combinable cropping enterprise. The large commercial shooting business is managed by Barney Stratton and operates over the family’s land as well as neighbouring farms and estates. The business was an early adopter of renewable energy and is a significant producer of electricity. The Codford estate has an AD plant which takes in food waste and also produces 80% of the required crop nutrition in the form of digestate. There are 18 ha of field mounted solar arrays, as well as roof mounted solar. A district biomass heating system uses low grade timber from farm woodland.
The business’s commercial property portfolio now totals 55,000 sq ft with tenants ranging from warehousing to manufacturing and offices. The farm also has 38 cottages in local villages plus three farm houses.
This is a rare opportunity to visit a successful and highly diversified family farming business, as well as a great chance to catch up with JET alumni of all ages and support the Trust in general.Stratton AD
